Maternal, Newborn & Child Health

Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH)

Every pregnancy on the Lake Victoria islands carries a level of risk that no woman should have to face. Long distances to health centers, unpredictable transport, and a lack of skilled care mean that many mothers go through pregnancy and childbirth without the support they need. For newborns and young children, even minor illnesses can become life-threatening simply because help is too far away.

RAHI is working to change this story. Our MNCH program brings compassionate, community centered healthcare directly to mothers and children who would otherwise go without it. We walk with women through pregnancy, provide critical support at birth, and ensure newborns receive care that protects their first and most vulnerable days of life. As children grow, we help families access essential health services, nutrition support, and early medical attention needed to prevent avoidable illnesses.

Behind every healthy mother and thriving child is a network of support and on the islands, that support begins with RAHI. By strengthening local health systems, mobilizing communities, and increasing awareness, we are creating a future where mothers feel safe, children grow strong, and families live with dignity.
