Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights

Strengthening Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for School-going Children in the Bussi Community

Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) is a cornerstone of sustainable development and a vital aspect of ensuring the well-being of young people. However, in Uganda, particularly in underserved areas like Bussi Island, SRHR services and education for school-going children remain inadequate. High rates of teenage pregnancy, limited access to contraceptives, and inadequate sexual education expose young people to risks such as early childbearing, unsafe abortions, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Addressing these challenges is crucial for fostering a healthier and more informed generation. This initiative focuses on empowering school-going children in the Bussi community through comprehensive SRHR education and improved access to essential services. By integrating youth-friendly programs within schools and leveraging community outreach, this intervention aims to reduce the prevalence of teenage pregnancies, improve menstrual hygiene, and equip students with knowledge to make informed decisions about their health.
With support from stakeholders, educators, and health professionals, this program seeks to create a lasting impact by strengthening health systems, challenging cultural stigmas, and advocating for policies that prioritize the reproductive health needs of young people in Bussi. Together, we can ensure every child has the right to grow, learn, and thrive in a safe and supportive environment.
