Across the Lake Victoria islands, access to safe water and proper sanitation remains one of the greatest challenges for families. Many households still rely on contaminated water sources, and with limited sanitation facilities, preventable diseases spread quickly, especially among children. For mothers walking long distances to fetch water, and for communities facing recurring outbreaks of waterborne illnesses, the struggle is constant and exhausting.
RAHI’s WASH program restores dignity and protects the health of island communities by making clean water and safe hygiene practices a reality for those who need them most. We work directly in the villages to ensure families can access safe drinking water, learn proper hygiene habits, and live in cleaner, healthier environments. By improving sanitation conditions and transforming hygiene behaviors, we reduce the burden of disease and create a foundation for better health and stronger livelihoods.
But WASH is more than infrastructure; it is about giving families the chance to live without fear of sickness caused by something as essential as water. It is about ensuring children can grow up healthy, attend school consistently, and fulfill their potential. It is about freeing women and girls from the daily struggle of fetching unsafe water so they can focus on education, income, and personal well-being.
